In Illinois
Engineer: Heneghan & Associates, PC

With the help of the Target
Initiative Program from the State of Illinois, Gateway
Regional Water Company was able to fund the construction of a
new water treatment plant serving 18,000 customers throughout
four counties of Southern Illinois.
The project consisted of constructing a 12,000 sq. ft. by 30’
tall pre-engineered building with a single story 6,000 sq. ft.
office building attached.
Inside the 12,000 sq. ft. plant building are two 42’ diameter
claricones, four concrete filters, a chemical feed system,
high service pumps and catwalks. The office building consists
of a conference room, break room, locker/restrooms,
laboratory, and chemical room. A powder activated carbon
system is housed in a third building on-site. Separate from
the project was included the renovation of the existing North
East Marion Pump Station where K&L installed new pumps and
piping. The Gateway Water Treatment Plant serves four
communities and five water distribution centers in currently
supplying portions of six counties.
