  • How do you pronounce your name?

    Core-tee and Loot-john. We’re named for our founders.



  • Is K & L still a family-owned business?

    Yes, we are. K & L was founded in 1958 by Cyril “Pete” Korte, who was joined the following year by his brother-in-law, Joe Luitjohan. Upon Pete’s retirement in 2018, his son, Gregg, became president. Several family members work in various capacities, but our desire is for everyone who works for us to feel like family.




  • What are the benefits of Design-Build?

    Design-Build offers full integration of all aspects of a project – from design and pre-construction to construction and closeout – allowing Korte & Luitjohan Contractors, Inc to provide a streamlined project delivery unmatched in quality, speed, service, and accountability.




  • Does K & L self-perform any of its work?

    Yes, we self-perform carpentry, concrete, piping, and excavating. 

  • Are water treatment and wastewater treatment plants your specialty?

    While we have extensive experience in these areas, K & L’s construction portfolio is diverse, including churches, medical facilities, office buildings, and historic renovations. 

  • Does K & L do single family residential construction?

    No, we do not. 

  • Does K & L only do work in Illinois?

    No  — we have done many projects in Missouri. If you’re on the Missouri side of the Mississippi River, we’d love to talk about your project! 

  • What type of special training do you have to perform work in the medical field?

    K & L field staff participate in Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA)

    training to understand the procedures for properly performing medical

    facility construction and renovation tasks. This training, conducted by the

    American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), covers the practical

    use of ICRA tools including containment, negative air, HEPA filtration, and

    work practice techniques.

  • Does K & L stand behind its work?

    Absolutely! Our commercial builders provide a two-year warranty on all self-performed portions of our projects. Additionally, we conduct 11-month and 23-month inspections to make sure our customers are happy with our work.
